MLB Franchise Notes: Monforts Not Selling Rockies

Monforts Not Planning On Putting
Rockies Up For Sale |
Rockies Chair & CEO Charlie Monfort said that he and his brother, Vice Chair Dick Monfort, are “absolutely not” selling the team. Charlie Monfort: “We think our future is very bright. I think baseball, in general, has a future that’s very bright. And we think that with the young talent that we’re bringing up and the fact that we’ve gone through the history of getting our balance sheet and our financial situation taken care of, it would be idiotic to sell at this point in time.” He added, “We had problems with the balance sheet and getting that corrected, and we’ve done that. Now we actually have some financial flexibility that we would have used this offseason if we would have seen something that really made some sense” (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 5/26).
REDS: Through their first 28 home games, the Reds are on pace to draw fewer than 1.9 million fans to Great American Ball Park. That would be the “smallest attendance figure” in the ballpark’s five-year history. Only seven MLB teams have a lower average attendance this season than the Reds' 23,219 (CINCINNATI POST, 5/29).
PHILLIES: The Phillies have installed two kiosks at the first-base gate at Citizens Bank Park where fans can receive their tickets by swiping the same credit card used to order the tickets. Phillies Ticket Department Dir Dan Goroff said “close to 30[%]” of all will-call orders on Monday were obtained at the kiosks (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 5/30).
