ESPN Ombudsman Le Anne Schreiber, whose two-year appointment began April 1, is “already making waves,” according to Michael McCarthy of USA TODAY. Schreiber received “overwhelming” support in e-mails from viewers after she “called out Sean Salisbury, Skip Bayless, Jay Mariotti and Woody Paige for yelling too much on the air.” Schreiber points to Bayless as one of the most “vehement and absolutist” personalities on the air, and said pitting him in debates against Stephen A. Smith on was “asking for disaster.” McCarthy notes Schreiber also “came down hard” on ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd for “urging listeners to shut down TheBigLead.com.” She also “doesn’t like the showboating she sees” on “SportsCenter.” She said too many anchors try to “make themselves more important than the news” (USA TODAY, 5/25).
