Media Notes

Daytona-based Motor Racing Network, which is owned by Int’l Speedway Corp., is relocating its HQs to Concord, North Carolina, “bringing 50 jobs and investing more than $2[M] in Cabarrus County over the next three years” (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/19).

PERSONALITIES: White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen on Friday morning called WSCR-AM talk show host Mike North on the air after C A.J. Pierzynski discussed on the show his “disappointment in not starting the opening game against the Cubs” that day. Guillen said live, on the air to North, “Oh, shut the (expletive) up. ... There’s no reason you guys try making lineups and (expletive) on the air.” WSCR did not use the delay button (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 5/19)....In N.Y., Bob Raissman wrote the addition of former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy to the “revolving cast of ABC/ESPN NBA broadcasters makes no sense. ... It’s bad enough that ABC’s NBA pregame show is unwatchable, now the brainiacs in charge want to destroy the game coverage, too. They add Van Gundy to battle for air time with [Mark] Jackson and [Mike] Breen. Haven’t these foofs figured out that in Jackson they already have the top analyst in the game?” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/20)....In New Jersey, Bob Klapisch reports YES announcers “apparently have been given the green light to be more critical of [manager Joe] Torre’s in-game decisions, a tactic [Owner George Steinbrenner] has used in the past when he was displeased with the manager” (Bergen RECORD, 5/21).
