Lamour Leading WADA Presidential Candidate

WADA VP JEAN FRANCOIS LAMOUR, the “leading candidate” to become the next
president of WADA, “failed two drug tests during his athletic career 20 years
ago.” As a fencer, he tested positive for caffeine in ’87 and pholcodine in ’89.
The first test was rejected when the B sample turned up negative; he claimed that
the pholcodine found in the second test “was prescribed to cure a cold.” Neither
offense led to sanctions (AROUNDTHERINGS.com, 5/11).
CRIME & PUNISHMENT: A U.S. Appeals Court upheld the one-year, one-day sentence
of Dr. JAMES SHORTT for illegally distributing steroids and HGH to patients,
including members of the NFL Panthers. His attorney had argued that the sentence
“more than doubled” federal sentencing guidelines (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/11)....A
federal court convicted former U.S. Olympian STEVE RIDDICK of teaming with
U.S. Olympic Gold Medal-winning sprinter TIM MONTGOMERY “in a scheme to

Emergency Department Dir ORESTE JOSEPH BRUNI surrendered to police on charges
of distributing steroids to the owner of a Long Island gym touting itself as “a
favorite workout spot for professional athletes” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/11)....Predators
Promotions Manager CHRIS LEIPOLD, the son of Owner CRAIG LEIPOLD,
was arrested Thursday and charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of

HOME & AWAY: Sportscaster BOB COSTAS will pay about $10M for a three-bedroom,
3,500-square-foot apartment in Manhattan. Meanwhile, OSCAR DE LA HOYA has
sold his retreat and training facility in California to UFC fighter TITO ORTIZ

SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT: JAMES NAISMITH’s grandson, IAN, has
created a documentary titled “BASKETBALL MAN,” in which he travels the
country in an RV with the original 13 rules of the game in a gold briefcase. SPORTING
NEWS’ Sean Gregory writes the four-hour film “is simply too long ... but watched
over a few days, it will leave you with a stirring appreciation for a truly fascinating

India next month to star in a promotional video for a Bollywood film called “FOOL
