MISL Considering Basing Team In New Louisville Arena

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) is “considering basing a team in Louisville’s new downtown arena,” according to Green & Klepal of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. The news came after Louisville City Council member Dan Johnson “raised concerns” that a pending lease with the Univ. of Louisville (UL) would “effectively exclude professional sports teams from using the arena.” A clause in the UL deal would “keep arena officials from scheduling events on the day before and after a basketball game.” That could “prevent concerts and other events” from coming to the arena in the winter. Kentucky State Fair Board President and Louisville Arena Authority (LAA) Exec Dir Harold Workman said that the agreement “mirrors the current arrangement [UL] has at Freedom Hall,” but that major events have been scheduled there on days before and after games. MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan plans to meet with local officials next month. LAA Chair Jim Host indicated that “other tenants have shown interest” in the arena, but declined to name them (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 5/11).
