A’s Sign Agreements For 226 Acres In Fremont For Cisco Field |
A’s Owner Lew Wolff, Cisco and Denver-based real estate company ProLogis have
signed land agreements to proceed with Cisco Field, which means the team now controls
226 acres in Fremont, California, where the ballpark will be built. The land will
also include an urban baseball village (A’s). In San Jose, Barry Witt reports
the deal includes 152 acres controlled by Cisco “under a long-term lease with
... ProLogis and an additional 28 acres owned by ProLogis.” Cisco assigned its
interest in the land to the A’s, while the team “took out a new long-term lease
on the smaller piece with an option to buy.” The club already owns or controls
the other 46 acres. The ballpark is scheduled to be completed before the 2011
season. The ballpark village will also include townhouses, 550,000 square feet
of retail space and a 100-room hotel. Wolff said that he “did not know when he
would submit a detailed development application to the city.” Witt notes Fremont
will have to decide “whether it wants to allow the ballpark and housing on property
that has been reserved ... for industrial development.” Wolff said earlier this
week the team is “intending to cover all the costs” (SAN
JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 5/11).
