NFL Int’l Notes: 17th Game Not Likely To Come Next Year

NFL Dir of Corporate Communications Brian McCarthy said the addition of a 17th game to each team’s schedule that would be played outside the U.S. would come “most likely not next year but likely to be shortly thereafter” (USA TODAY, 5/11).

ARGO-NOMIC: Blue Jays President & CEO Paul Godfrey said that a group headed by Blue Jays Owner Ted Rogers and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Chair Larry Tanenbaum submitted a bid to host an NFL game in ’08 at Rogers Centre. In Toronto, Rob Longley notes Godfrey has been “campaigning to bring an NFL team to Toronto for decades” and “acknowledged that the [CFL] Argonauts were involved in the process.” The proposal includes a clause giving Argonauts season-ticket holders “first dibs on tickets for the NFL game.” Godfrey said that it will “be recommended that an Argos home game be held within a couple of days of the NFL contest” (TORONTO SUN, 5/11).

LONDON FOG: In Ft. Lauderdale, Sarah Talalay notes the first tickets for the October 28 Dolphins-Giants game in London will go on sale next Wednesday, but fans “who are not season-ticket holders or did not register online previously can only buy tickets through third parties.” Dolphins Enterprises Senior Dir of Corporate Communications & Development George Torres said tickets will be made available to season-ticket holders of both teams. He added that the team is “arranging an event in South Florida, possibly at Dolphin Stadium, so fans can watch the game together” (SUN-SENTINEL, 5/11).
