SADDLE UP: NBC’s final Nielsen rating for coverage of last Saturday’s Kentucky
Derby was up 7% from a 7.0/18 last year. The network drew 11.5 million viewers,
its best delivery in six years and an 8% increase from 10.6 million viewers last
year. In the race window from 5:41-6:42pm ET, NBC earned an 8.8/21, up 5% from
an 8.4/20 last year. NBC averaged 13.8 million viewers in the window, up 7% from
12.9 million last year (NBC). NBC’s “Barbaro: A Nation’s Horse,” which
aired later Saturday night after being pre-empted a week earlier for an over-run
on NHL playoff coverage, “wound up in a near-last-place finish among the week’s
major-network programs” (USA TODAY, 5/9).
HIGH & INSIDE: Fox’ audience of 2.9 million viewers for its regional MLB
coverage last Saturday was up 11% from 2.6 million for last year’s Week 5 coverage
and marked the fourth straight week Fox has posted an audience increase over ’06.
Through five telecasts, Fox is averaging 3.8 million viewers, up 18% over 3.2
million last year (Fox).... FSN Wisconsin earned a 9.1/ (80,353 HHs) for
Pirates-Brewers last Friday, the second-highest rating ever for a Brewers game
on cable TV (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/8).
PLAYOFFS: Five NBA playoff games on TNT ranked among the top ten in viewership
on cable TV programs for the week ended May 6. Thursday’s Mavericks-Warriors Game
Six ranked third, Tuesday’s Warriors-Mavericks Game Five ranked fifth and Wednesday’s
Lakers-Suns Game Five ranked sixth. Tied for ninth were Monday’s Spurs-Nuggets
Game Four and Wednesday’s Nuggets-Spurs Game Five (USA TODAY, 5/11)....NBC’s
ratings for its Saturday and Sunday NHL coverage were up 37.5% and 10%, respectively,
from the comparable dates last year (THE DAILY).
