Santa Clara Keeping Some Stadium Documents Confidential

Santa Clara officials have signed a confidentiality agreement with the 49ers “to keep secret certain sensitive documents about the team’s quest to build an $854[M] stadium in the city,” according to Julie Patel of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. The 49ers feel that releasing certain financial information “could harm their ability to negotiate the best financing options for the stadium.” The team, which “does not plan to publicize breakdowns for projected revenues,” can identify documents they want kept secret, but the city “would still be required to follow the California Public Records Act.” Stadium critics said that the public “should have the chance to examine every document, because the city is weighing contributing more than $160[M] to the project” (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 5/4).
