Today’s The Deadline For MSOs To Ink Deal For Extra Innings

By John Ourand, Staff Writer

Cable operators have until the end of today to sign up for baseball’s Extra Innings out-of-market package and commit to carry the Baseball Channel, or they face the possibility of going without the package until 2013. That’s when MLB’s deal with DirecTV, Comcast, Time Warner and Cox is up. The two biggest cable operators that haven’t signed deals yet, Charter and Cablevision, both say they are still negotiation with MLB and are hopeful a deal can be completed today. MLB’s negotiations with satellite operator EchoStar have apparently stalled — the two sides haven’t talked in weeks — and it’s unlikely it will cut a deal. Telephone operator Verizon has been negotiating, but also appears unlikely to cut a deal.
