Merchandise Tent, Kiosks Busy At Wachovia Championship
By Brad Pinkerton, Staff
Writer
Late in the first round yesterday of the PGA Tour Wachovia Championship, the main
merchandise tent was already swelling with patrons shopping for memorabilia. Although
dollar figures were not yet available, Quail Hollow Golf Pro Scott Davenport said
Wednesday and Thursday had been the busiest early-tournament days in terms of
sales in recent memory. “There’s been good activity with Tiger Woods and Michael
Jordan playing here [Wednesday],” he said. “That made for a very active pro-am.”
Not coincidently, Davenport said there has been a notable uptick in the sales
of Nike gear with the appearance of two of the company’s most high profile endorsers.
As usual, however, the hottest-selling items around the course thus far were the
official tournament hats, available in adult sizes for $22.
