Michael Keston Seeking MLS Expansion Team In Northwest

California-based real estate developer Michael Keston indicated that he “retains the exclusive rights to discuss with MLS the possibility of bringing an expansion team to either the Portland or Seattle area,” and MLS confirmed it has had discussions with his group, according to Boaz Herzog of the Portland OREGONIAN. Keston is Owner & CEO of Larwin Co., which was founded by former Trail Blazers Owner Larry Weinberg. Keston said that he has “not ruled out Seattle [for an MLS team] but that he and his son James Keston came away very impressed from an initial two-day tour of Portland and PGE Park.” Michael Keston: “We very much would like to be in Portland.” He added that he would “consider the idea of building a 25,000-seat stadium outside the city should a lease at PGE Park not work out” and estimated such a facility would cost about $120M. Keston said that his son would “probably assume a top leadership role in an expansion team” (Portland OREGONIAN, 5/2).
