Peter Ueberroth Discusses
Revenue Sharing With IOC |
USOC Chair Peter Ueberroth said that the USOC “has been talking with the
IOC about a new arrangement for revenue sharing,” according to Stephen Wade
of the AP. Int’l federations and national Olympic bodies are “pushing
the IOC to reduce the U.S. allocation,” which is currently almost 13% of
U.S. TV rights fees and 20% of global marketing revenue. Ueberroth: “We’ve
said we will share more if we agree to grow the pie. If we hold the pie steady
and shrink it, and you want to fight for little percentages here and there, that’s
not going to do anybody any good” (AP, 4/26). In a Q&A with
NBCSPORTS.com’s Alan Abrahamson, Ueberroth said, “Our goal is to show
the IOC how we can dramatically increase its revenues and if there's more for
everybody that should be a worthwhile objective. There's always going to be a
whiner who says, ‘Somebody got more than me.’ But you have to ask
the question, who produced the most for everybody?” (NBCSPORTS.com,
4/27).
