Defamation Lawsuit Against Doan
Patriots QB TOM BRADY returned from an eight-day trip in Africa organized by DATA, an advocacy group founded by U2’s BONO. He visited health clinics, schools and other spots in Ghana and Uganda (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/3)....Montreal’s La Presse reported Canadian politician DENIS CODERRE filed a defamation lawsuit against Coyotes RW SHANE DOAN seeking about $39,000 in damages in response to a suit Doan filed Coderre in January ’06 alleging that Coderre “lobbied against Doan being named to Canada’s 2006 Olympics squad on the basis that Doan allegedly made slurs against francophone officials during” a Coyotes-Canadiens game in ’05 (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/3)....San Antonio-based artist DON HUNT plans to build an eight-foot bronze statue costing $99,600 in honor of late Yankees P CORY LIDLE. If approved by the City Council, the statue will be placed at the new Big League Dreams Sports Park in West Covina, California, where Lidle grew up (SAN GABRIEL VALLEY TRIBUNE, 4/3)....Last night’s edition of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” featured U.S. Olympic speedskater APOLO ANTON OHNO and his dance partner, JULIANNE HOUGH, skating at the Salt Lake City Olympic training center.
