The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) announced NYRA Senior VP & COO BILL NADER
will become its new Exec Dir of Racing, effective April 23 (HKJC). Nader,
who has spent the past 13 years with NYRA, signed a three-year contract with the
HKJC, but “would not reveal its terms” (Albany TIMES UNION, 3/17). Nader
said, “I didn’t look to leave. I wanted to stay to see the procedure (NYRA’s bid
to renew its franchise) through. I really believe a reconstituted NYRA offers
the best opportunity for New York racing” (N.Y. POST, 3/17).
JET SET: The Jets named Bergen Record sportswriter RANDY LANGE Dir
of Publications and Editor-in-Chief of NewYorkJets.com. Lange spent the last 13
years covering the team for the Record, and has also written for Jets Confidential,
Sports Illustrated and USA Today, in addition to authoring “Stadium Stories: New
York Jets” (THE DAILY).
EXECS: JACK WARNER was re-elected CONCACAF President after running
unopposed. He first took the position in ’90, and the election will keep him in
the role until 2011 (AROUND THE RINGS, 3/16 issue)....Dick’s Sporting Goods
named TIMOTHY KULLMAN as Senior VP & CFO. Kullman previously held the same
position at PetsMart (Dick’s)....The Rockies hired REED SAUNDERS
as their new PA voice, replacing ALAN ROACH, who resigned after serving
in the role since the team’s inception in ’93 (Rockies).
