Popularity Of Luxury Suites Expanding Beyond Team Sporting Events In South Florida |
Skyboxes, “once associated mostly with team sports, have also become the norm
for other events,” and in South Florida, “suite sales remain strong both for teams
and prominent events,” according to Barry Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD. Even though
the Sony Ericsson Open and PGA Tour WGC-CA Championship will overlap this month,
“the golf event has sold out its suites and the tennis event only has one left.”
WGC-CA Championship Executive Dir Ed Carbone said, “People want high-end options.”
Jackson notes the cost for one of the 15 skyboxes overlooking the 18th hole is
$40,000, including seating for 30, food, beverages and parking. The tournament
also offers ten suites starting at $60,000. Elsewhere, the NHL Panthers have sold
all 75 of their suites for the season at BankAtlantic Center, and the Heat have
sold all of their 28 at AmericanAirlines Arena. The Dolphins “typically sell all
their 240 suites for each game, and the [Marlins] sell about 50[%] of theirs.”
Homestead-Miami Speedway added 16 suites in ’05, giving the track a total of 52,
and Gulfstream Park added 22 skyboxes in renovations completed last year (MIAMI
HERALD, 3/16).
