On Beginnings Of Red Sox Nation |
A new feature-length movie “documenting about 100 years of Red Sox fandom is in the works and could air as early as this summer,” according to Jesse Noyes of the BOSTON HERALD. “Rooters: The Birth of Red Sox Nation” includes old footage and present-day interviews with people like ESPN’s Peter Gammons and former Red Sox SS Johnny Pesky. The movie will likely air on NESN. Peter Nash, a producer and writer of the film and the author of the book “Boston’s Royal Rooters,” said the Red Sox’ “first group of rabid fans,” known as the Royal Rooters, “really formed the backbone for American sports fans as we know them today.” Noyes notes the movie’s exec producer Ian McFarland and his business partner Anthony Moreschi shot the film, which is now in post-production (BOSTON HERALD, 3/16).
