Maple Leafs Experimenting
With Streaming Live Regional Games |
The Maple Leafs through Leafs TV are “experimenting with the streaming of live regional telecasts, but also applying an interactive element that allows users to choose camera locations,” according to William Houston of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. The telecast of Friday’s Capitals-Maple Leafs game will be streamed on mapleleafs.com and will include interactive extras including a camera that takes viewers “into the dressing room area where reporters interview the players after the game.” The Web cast will be restricted to consumers in the Toronto broadcast region. MLSE Senior VP/Broadcasting Chris Hebb said that the team is charging $3.95 per game for the service, but “at this stage the objective is to gather information more than it is to make sales.” Hebb: “At the end of the day, we’re trying to get maybe 5,000 users for a really good sample group. We’re asking people for feedback and actually asking them to help design it” (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 3/14). If the test works, the team “will stream more games next season, although only the ones shown on Leafs TV” (TORONTO STAR, 3/14).
