Swindal Arrested On
Suspicion Of DUI |
Yankees General Partner STEVE SWINDAL, son-in-law of Yankees Owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER, was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of DUI. MLB Commissioner BUD SELIG called it a family issue but said, “I will continue to monitor the situation and will review the ultimate disposition.” In N.Y., Kepner & Curry write Swindal is a “direct representative of Steinbrenner as the successor to a booming family business, and the stain on his reputation could put that status in jeopardy” (N.Y. TIMES, 2/16).
STOP PAY: Since the resignation of NJSEA CEO GEORGE ZOFFINGER this month over a conflict of interest related to his son working for the NJSEA’s law firm, authority lawyers “have been combing through the state's ethics rules to try to prevent other commissioners from voting on anything that might put them in conflict.” The NJSEA has decided “not to pay any of its bills until members are certain they won’t run afoul of conflict-of-interest rules” (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 2/16).
