Colorado-based PhatRat Technology, which makes wireless devices that gauge a wearer’s performance, said in a compliant in federal court that Apple and Nike are “using its patented innovations without permission” in the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, according to the AP. PhatRat is asking for “cash compensation and a court order blocking the use.” PhatRat makes products such as the airRat, a device for measuring sports performance while snowboarding, skiing or riding a BMX bike. Nike Dir of Global Issues Management Vada Manager said Nike “is reviewing the allegations alongside our own intellectual property rights” (AP, 2/3).
