Sandy Again On Table For RSL; Red Bulls Move Training
A bill introduced Thursday in the Utah state Legislature “could bring a Real Salt Lake stadium to Sandy and salvage [the] franchise,” according to Jensen & Lewis of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The bill — “crafted behind closed doors this week with the blessing of” Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson and legislative leaders — would “snatch at least $20[M] for the project out of Salt Lake County coffers, which critics allege could result in a countywide property-tax hike” (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 2/2).
BULLS’ MARKET: The Red Bulls will train at Montclair State Univ. “for at least the next year and possibly two.” The team will fund a “substantial renovation” of the school’s Dioguardi Field and its field house “in exchange for the right to exclusively train on the site” in ’07, with an option for ’08. The team’s $140M stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, is scheduled to open in July ’08 (JERSEY JOURNAL, 2/2).
