RBC Center Owner Looking For Greater
Cut Of Hurricanes’ Potential Playoff Profits |
Under a draft lease amendment approved Thursday, the Centennial Authority, a public agency that owns the RBC Center, would get “more of the profits” when the Hurricanes make the playoffs, according to Ryan Teague Beckwith of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. In exchange, the authority would “take over insurance payments on the arena and lower the team owners’ guaranteed minimum rent by $250,000 a year.” The new lease would also “prohibit corporate sponsorships inside the arena without approval of the” authority, an issue that arose last year when the Hurricanes renamed a new lounge in the arena. The amendment would also extend the lease of Hurricanes Owner and RBC Center operator Gale Force Sports & Entertainment for “another 10 years.” RBC Center VP & GM Dave Olsen said, “We just got [the draft]. We’ll have to take a look at it” (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 2/2).
