Earnhardt Jr. Launches NASCAR Social Networking Web Site |
NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. launched in December InfieldParking.com, a Web site “similar to MySpace.com but geared toward NASCAR fans.” Earnhardt and other drivers “will launch personal profiles around the Daytona 500 weekend,” and JR Motorsports President Kelley Earnhardt Elledge said that 10-15 drivers “will be onboard” before the race (ESPN.com, 2/1)....Rutgers Univ. will appear at least four times on ESPN’s college football coverage next season. Games against Navy (Friday, September 7), South Florida (Thursday, October 18) and Louisville (Thursday, November 29) will air on ESPN, while the Friday, November 9 game against Army will be on ESPN2 (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 2/2).... The MLS Dynamo signed their first Spanish-language TV deal with local station TV Informa. The two-year deal is in the low six-figures and includes production costs. The over-the-air channel will televise live games and replay games later in the week (Tripp Mickle, SBJ)....WTIC-AM signed a multi-year deal with Entercom Communications to keep Red Sox broadcasts on the station (HARTFORD COURANT, 2/2).
STAR SEARCH: GOLFWEEK’s Forecaddie cites sources as saying that Golf Channel CEO David Manougian recommended to Comcast execs that TaylorMade-adidas Golf President & CEO Mark King fill the vacant Golf Channel president position. Discussions were held, but a “firm offer never materialized.” The search for a successor to Manougian, who was promoted from President in ’05, “is intensifying, especially because talks with a few top candidates ... have fizzled.” Meanwhile, King has signed a new four-year extension to stay with TaylorMade (GOLFWEEK, 2/3 issue).
