According to its latest five-year financial plan, WHISTLER RESORT is planning
to spend C$10M over the next four years to help host the 2010 Vancouver Olympics
and Paralympics. About C$2.3M will be spent funding the Olympic Games office and
its staff. The remaining money will be spent on a “myriad of projects, including
communications, volunteers’ programs and the arts and cultural celebrations” (Vancouver
PROVINCE, 1/3).
SNOW DAY: The ASPEN SKIING CO. had its “second-best day in nine
seasons” on Saturday, but officials estimated that it lost 4,000-5,000 lift ticket
sales due to the blizzard that hit Denver before Christmas (ASPEN TIMES, 1/3).

HELPING HAND: Nuggets Fs CARMELO ANTHONY and KENYON MARTIN
are “planning to donate money to the family” of Broncos CB DARRENT WILLIAMS,
who was killed in a drive-by shooting Monday morning. One of the ideas is to start
a college fund for Williams’ children (DENVER POST, 1/4).
CHARITY STRIPE: Double-A Eastern League Trenton Thunder and Single-A South
Atlantic League Lakewood BlueClaws co-Owner JOSEPH PLUMERI, and his wife,
NANCY, have made the “largest donation ever to the Make-A-Wish foundation,
giving $2[M] to help build a new state headquarters for the group” in New Jersey
(PHILDADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 1/4)....Snowboarder ROSS POWERS and his
agent, Octagon’s PETER CARLISLE, have started a foundation to “help young
athletes make the Olympic team.” Carlisle: “Ross and I can sit down with (donors),
help them pick an athlete and set up how their money gets paid out.” The foundation
had net assets of $107,000 in ’06 (FORBES, 1/8 issue).
