Names & Faces: Ricky Rudd To Drive No. 88 Car For RYR
ESPN.com’s Marty Smith cited sources as saying the Robert Yates Racing (RYR) Snickers
Ford driven by Ricky Rudd in the Nextel Cup Series will carry the No. 88 this
season due to a “decision made based on a 2002 agreement between RYR and Texaco/Havoline.”
Sources said that the agreement stated RYR “could keep the No. 28 when Texaco
left for Chip Ganassi Racing, but that Yates would wait several years to run the
number.” Sources added that Yates and Masterfoods “wanted to run the No. 28, but
couldn’t reach the required agreement with Texaco to do so” (ESPN.com, 1/3).
