Living A Fantasy: More NFL Players Playing Fantasy Football

June (r) Among Growing Number
Of NFLers Playing Fantasy Football

The growing trend of NFL players actively participating in fantasy football leagues was examined on Sunday’s edition of ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown.” Colts LB Cato June said his fantasy football team includes Patriots QB Tom Brady, who June intercepted twice back in Week 9. June: “I have to put Tom Brady on the bench because I will not feel right getting those fantasy points and playing him at the same time.” June said he plays fantasy football because “it’s a good [break] from reality ... and you try to simulate what it would be like to have your own team.” ESPN.com’s Greg Garber: “While June is one of the few NFL players who admits he plays fantasy football, the phenomenon affects the reality of many in the league. From friends to family to fans, everyone is looking for inside information.” Titans coach Jeff Fisher said when people ask him about players around the league, “You know what the basis for the question is: It’s a fantasy football question.” Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson said his stats are “not something that you go into a game saying, ‘Okay, I’ve got to really make sure my fantasy owners are happy after this game.’” Garber said “fantasy point totals, some players complain, are becoming as important as the final numbers on the scoreboard.” Broncos QB Jake Plummer: “I think it’s ruined the game, actually. There’s no true fans anymore.” ESPN’s Chris Berman noted the NFL “has no specific rules against its players participating in fantasy football leagues, nor should it” (“Sunday NFL Countdown,” ESPN, 11/26).
