Cowboys Fighting Public Disclosure Of New Stadium Drawings
The Cowboys have “declined to release architectural drawings of the new publicly funded stadium under construction in Arlington, saying that the plans should remain confidential under the Texas Homeland Security Act,” according to Andrea Ahles of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. In a letter to the Texas Attorney General’s office dated Wednesday, the Cowboys “argue that the stadium plans should not be released to the public because they are a trade secret and subject to ongoing economic development negotiations with the city.” The letter follows the Star-Telegram’s request last month under the Public Information Act “seeking access to or copies of the stadium plans.” Arlington residents “have not seen any drawings or architectural renderings of the complex since” passing the stadium referendum in ’04. The construction site is surrounded by black tarps on a chain-link fence that “prevent the public from looking into the 50-foot-deep stadium bowl.” Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck previously said that he “has seen what the stadium will look like” (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/8).
