Mariah Carey Concert Could Bump WNBA Finals Game To The Joe

Game Five of the Shock-Monarchs WNBA Finals, if necessary, will be played at Joe Louis Arena on September 9 instead of the Palace of Auburn Hills due to a scheduled Mariah Carey concert, according to Chris Silva of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. While the concert is scheduled for 8:00pm ET and the game would be at 3:30pm, “the Palace could not accommodate both events.” Shock COO Craig Turnbull said playing at Joe Louis Arena “makes more sense for us. It’s the venue within our proximity. It has large enough capacity. Our partners, the league and ESPN are comfortable with the venue” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 8/29).
