Xanadu Developers Looking For New
Partner For Minor League Ballpark
Xanadu developers Mills Corp. and Mack-Cali Realty will issue an RFP to prospective minor league teams by July 15 in order to seek “a new partner to build a minor league ballpark” at the Xanadu complex, according to Matthew Futterman of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. In a letter to NJSEA President & CEO George Zoffinger, the developers “explained they were still committed to building the ballpark,” but they “could not reach a deal to finance the stadium with” Independent Atlantic League Bergen Cliff Hawks Owner Steve Kalafer. Cliff Hawks spokesperson Tony Ciccatiello said that Mills and Mack-Cali “promised to build the ballpark for the Cliff Hawks three years ago and should live up to that deal.” Ciccatiello: “This is a delay tactic for them to avoid moving forward.” Mills on Friday is expected to announce a deal to build the indoor ski mountain portion of the Xanadu project (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 6/16).
