Home Of The Bruins, Celtics Planning Premium Seat Overhaul
TD Banknorth Garden “will revamp its high-end ‘premium’ seating this summer to cater to three groups often overlooked by other sports teams: young professionals, small businesses, and life sciences and technology companies,” according to Sasha Talcott of the BOSTON GLOBE. Plans include a sports bar called the Premium SportsDeck and a private club area called the Boardroom. There are plans to sell naming rights to both areas. Two memberships in the Boardroom cost $15,000 total, and the least expensive SportsDeck membership is $2,000. Fans that buy reserved tickets to the SportsDeck also get a membership in the arena’s “Premium Club,” which “comes with perks such as access to concert tickets and special trips.” The SportsDeck “starter package includes 10 games instead of a full season.” Membership in the Boardroom is limited to 75 and will offer items “such as lobster tail and filet mignon.” Members are “guaranteed tickets to all shows and games, but the freedom to attend only the ones they want.” They also will get “golfing privileges at two country clubs.” The planned changes “are the most extensive since the arena opened” in ’95 (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/17). TD Banknorth Garden President John Wentzell said, “We realize that after 10 years, the market is changing. We are looking to diversify our products.” In Boston, Scott Van Voorhis notes the ends of the arena where the new clubs will go are areas “where traditional club seat sales have proved the weakest” (BOSTON HERALD, 5/17).
