Kung Inks One-Year Deal To
Endorse Stars, MLB Rangers
|
Candie Kung, the LPGA’s No. 27 ranked player, has signed a one-year endorsement
deal with the Stars and MLB Rangers to adorn her shirts, hats and golf bag with
the teams’ logos, marking “the first time an LPGA player has worn apparel featuring
MLB and NHL insignias,” according to Bill Nichols of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS.
Kung will “feature the Stars until their season ends, then wear Rangers emblems
through baseball season.” Terms of the deal were not released, but it will “free
Kung from worrying about travel expenses and allow her to expend her energy” on
golf. Kung met Stars and Rangers Owner Tom Hicks at a Stars game, “got hooked
on hockey and became friends with [Hicks] after trading e-mails.” Kung’s instructor,
Adam Schriber, also works with Hicks. Nichols notes, “For Hicks, Kung promotes
the Stars and Rangers to different markets. She also adds value to sponsors of
both teams because she will make appearances at golf outings, clinics and other
functions.” Hicks said, “The golf bag will draw attention with the crowds and
on TV. We’re going to find ways to be creative. We want to use Candie to reach
a broad base of fans” (DALLAS
MORNING NEWS, 4/20).
