Woods Calls Unveiling Of Learning Center Momentous Occasion |
The 35,000-square-foot, $25M Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC) was unveiled Friday
in Anaheim. The center will offer educational programs for children in grades
4-12, and it is estimated that about 3,000 students will participate in the center’s
programs in the first year (TWLC). The TWLC will feature 100 computer stations,
a 200-seat auditorium and a 1,200-square-foot multimedia center (Damon Hack,
N.Y. TIMES, 2/11). Former President BILL CLINTON and MARIA SHRIVER,
the wife of California Gov. ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, attended the opening,
which Woods called a “momentous occasion.” Woods: “This is by far the greatest
thing that has ever happened to me.” The AP’s Doug Ferguson noted Woods donated
the first $5M toward the project, and “relied heavily” on 25 founding partners
ranging from Nike to Augusta National for the remainder (AP, 2/11). Anaheim
Mayor CURT PRINGLE later announced the stretch of Gilbert Street in front
of the TWLC would be renamed Tiger Woods Way (L.A. TIMES, 2/11).
