NBC’s Bob Costas said of the new Olympic sport of slope-style skiing, "I think the president of the IOC should be Johnny Knoxville because basically this stuff is just 'Jackass' stuff that they invented and called Olympic sports. I mean it in the kindest possible sense" ("Today," NBC, 1/6).

MONEY MACHINE: The CBC's Glenn Healy said the Winter Classic "generated a huge amount of money" with over $30M and the "costs are way less" for this year's game. Healy: "These games do wonderfully. To put it in perspective, a (Maple) Leaf game … does about $3 million" ("HNIC," NHL Network, 1/4).

EARNING POTENTIAL? Golf World/Golf Digest contributor Geoff Shackelford said of the PGA Tour considering expanding the field of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, “It’s a great event, it’s the Tournament of Champions. We don’t want it to be the Tournament of Points Earners” (“Morning Drive,” Golf Channel, 1/6).
