First Look: Charlotte 49ers new football stadium
June 20, 2013 12:30 PM
Editors from The Daily were given a guided tour of the Univ. of North Carolina-Charlotte’s new football facility yesterday. UNCC Associate Dir for Media relations Tom Whitestone led the contingent through the Judy W. Rose Football Center, which houses the offices of the football coaches, a sports medicine facility, a players lounge, weight room, and an academic resource center, among other amenities.
From there, Whitestone presented the university’s crown jewels – the new Jerry Richardson Stadium and McColl-Richardson Field. The stadium, named for the NFL Panthers owner who made a donation of $10 million to the school, can seat 15,300 fans. It was constructed with potential expansion in mind without having to disrupt the sight lines offered by the seating configuration. The 49ers will play their first game on Aug. 31 against Campbell University.
