But once the parties reached a settlement yesterday after an all-day session of closed-door negotiations, Judge Lizbeth Gonzalez brought lawyers for both sides up to the bench to share in some gourmet chocolates she had brought. And for at least a few minutes, there was nothing but good feelings between the parties.
The candy sharing capped a day for Gonzalez in which she eschewed many of the typical mannerisms of a judge, as she on several occasions emerged from chambers to update the waiting press and interested onlookers on projected timetables. "I was brought up right," she offered.
