Taped coverage last night, which featured U.S. swimmers Missy Franklin winning gold in the 100-meter backstroke and Ryan Lochte finishing fourth in the 200-meter freestyle, earned a 20.1 overnight Nielsen rating, down 5 percent from the same night in Beijing. That telecast in 2008 was live and featured U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps winning the third of his eight gold medals.
Both Monday night telecasts featured men's gymnastics, as well as U.S. women's beach volleyball with Kerry Walsh and Misty May-Treanor. The 20.1 overnight is still up from Athens in 2004 (19.6).
