Barça coming to COTA

FC Barcelona will be opening a new soccer academy this August in Austin. The club has more than 30 academies around the world, including U.S. locations in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Charlotte. A new field is planned at the Circuit of the Americas. The move is part of the team’s push for a bigger footprint in the U.S. and a worldwide boost of its FCB Escola project.

Buffs to deploy Teamworks solutions

Teamworks reached a deal with the University of Colorado to streamline communication for coaches, athletic trainers, advisers and administrators while centralizing player and staff information. The Buffaloes will deploy Teamworks across the entire athletic department.

Bills prep for dynamic pricing

The Buffalo Bills are rolling out a new ticket policy for individual games that will be reflective of demand. The team has created five individual ticket price formulas — four for the regular season plus another for the team’s two preseason games at New Era Field. The breakdown includes one platinum game — the Sept. 10 opener versus the New York Jets.

NFL draft on the wish list

Canton and the Pro Football Hall of Fame are eyeing 2020 for a shot at hosting the NFL draft, according to a report in The Athletic. Ground was broken earlier this year on the HOF Village project, a $600 million complex adjacent to the stadium and hall that’s considered the key to hosting big events such as the draft.

Broncos add Teamworks to roster

As a collaboration software provider to the Denver Broncos, Teamworks will streamline the franchise’s communication, scheduling, travel planning and player information management. The Broncos become the fifth NFL team to use Teamworks’ technology to modernize internal operations and communication.

Dickies naming new arena
Multipurpose Arena Fort Worth and Dickies reached a naming-rights partnership establishing Dickies Arena as the name of Fort Worth’s new 14,000-seat venue, located adjacent to the Will Rogers Memorial Center and set to open in November 2019. The partnership was announced at last month’s “Let The Dirt Fly” groundbreaking ceremony.

FRISCO, TEXAS
RoughRiders sign IT partner

The Frisco RoughRiders and Skinny IT reached a five-year partnership. Skinny IT becomes the team’s exclusive technology service provider and corporate sponsor and will deploy Wi-Fi throughout Dr Pepper Ballpark. Skinny IT assumes the naming rights to the Skinny IT Tech Tavern, formerly known as the Triple Play Tavern. The Riders are the Class AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

LAS VEGAS
Stadium timeline draft issued

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority issued a draft of a preliminary project timeline that shows completion of a 65,000-seat domed football stadium by June 2020, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report. This would give the Raiders three months to move in before their first regular-season game.

Chargers sign flagship TV, radio partners

The Los Angeles Chargers agreed to multiyear television and radio agreements that will make KABC-TV, iHeartMedia Los Angeles, KAZA-TV Azteca America 54 and KFWB 980 AM the team’s official flagship English and Spanish-language broadcast partners. The Chargers will collaborate with each flagship in developing content.

Preds force CMT awards out

The 2017 CMT Music Awards are moving from Bridgestone Arena to Music City Center, a smaller Nashville venue, because of the Nashville Predators’ extended run in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The awards show will air live on June 7.

The New Orleans Baby Cakes, Class AAA affiliate of the Miami Marlins, along with concessionaire Centerplate, are offering The Baby Cakes Burger at Shrine on Airline ballpark. It is a four-ounce grilled burger topped with lettuce, tomatoes and a bacon onion jam, on a special cake bun (made of sweet brioche dough and dusted with sugar).

Blazers update team logo

The Portland Trail Blazers unveiled a new logo for the first time in 15 years,

altering their familiar pinwheel design. The red half of it has traded sides with the other part of the color equation, which is now white instead of silver, and the sharp lines at the ends of the pinwheel have been flattened. The team said that it made the changes, which take effect just as Nike becomes the NBA’s uniform provider, with fan input.

Sounders, Rainiers to manage USL team

The Seattle Sounders and the Class AAA PCL Tacoma Rainiers agreed to become partners in the management of the Sounders’ USL affiliate Sounders 2, who will play their home matches at a not-yet-built 5,000-person stadium next to Cheney Stadium, according to a (Tacoma) News Tribune report.

Railers begin ECHL run with Isles

The ECHL Worcester Railers reached an affiliation agreement with the New York Islanders for the 2017-18 season. Worcester joins the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL as the primary minor league affiliate for the Islanders organization.

Anfield expansion possible

Liverpool FC started a feasibility study into the expansion of Anfield that could lead to the capacity of the stadium increasing beyond 60,000, according to a London Times report. Liverpool is working on design, cost, capacity and economic viability options before deciding whether to proceed with the development.

JPMorgan renews at Lord’s

JPMorgan renewed its major sponsorship of Lord’s Cricket Ground and its media center. The three-year deal was signed after the completion of a $5.2 million refurbishment of the J.P. Morgan Media Centre. The partnership began in 2011 and will now run through 2019.

Man City plugs in with Eaton

Manchester City partnered with Eaton to become the club’s official home energy storage partner in the U.K. Eaton will share its best practice in energy storage to help amplify the team’s efforts across its daily operations at Etihad Stadium and City Football Academy.

Allianz Arena upgrades planned

Bayern Munich plans to upgrade Allianz Arena during the offseason, according to a SoccerEx report. Improvements will cost the club $11 million and include an LED video wall that, according to Allianz Arena CEO Jürgen Muth, will cost $2.2 million and will be the largest in Europe.

Hit the streets with 2024 game

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic bid committee has a new online game — Paris 2024 Run — which allows users to go on a virtual tour of the Paris 2024 Games vision. The game was developed by French company Gameloft, a subsidiary of Paris 2024 partner Vivendi.

Nastase banned from French Open
Ilie Nastase will not be given accreditation for this year’s French Open, according to a Reuters report. He is provisionally banned from all International Tennis Federation events after reportedly making racist and sexist comments during Romania’s Fed Cup tie against Britain last month.
