Free lessons at Topgolf
 
part of National Golf Day


    We Are Golf — a coalition of the game’s leading associations and industry partners — will once again partner with Topgolf for National Golf Day 2017, offering free golf lessons at the company’s 28 venues nationwide.
    On Wednesday, Topgolf is attempting to set a company record for most golf lessons taught in one day. Any guest who visits a Topgolf venue will receive a free five-minute lesson. Last year, Topgolf taught 2,251 free lessons.

JACKSONVILLE
Sgt. Scampi joins Jumbo Shrimp

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp signed Sgt. Scampi, from K9s For Warriors, as the team’s bat dog for a designated half inning at each Friday home game this season. Sgt. Scampi’s addition is part of weekly tributes to military personnel on Red Shirt Friday. The Jumbo Shrimp are the Class AA affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

LAS VEGAS
Knights, USA Hockey welcome youth

The Vegas Golden Knights on April 15 partnered with USA Hockey to host “Try Hockey for Free Day” at the Las Vegas Ice Center, according to a Las Vegas Sun report. Kids 9 and under were given skates and sticks and set loose on the rink. It was the seventh event held by the team, and brought the number of children that participated to nearly 1,000.

Chargers promote ‘Pick The Pick’

One fan who correctly predicts the Los Angeles Chargers’ first selection in this week’s draft will win a 2017 season-ticket package for two in the team’s “Pick The Pick” sweepstakes. Fans have until Thursday to submit who they think the Chargers will select with the seventh overall pick. The winner will be announced May 1.

NEWARK
Cornerstones winner announced

Prudential Financial, Prudential Center and the New Jersey Devils announced the winner of the Newark’s Cornerstones program at the Devils’ last home game this month. Sister June Favata was one of the eight finalists who garnered the most votes for community service efforts. She received two tickets to Prudential Center events, including Devils games, for one year. Sister June has been at Saint Vincent Academy, an inner-city, college-prep high school for girls founded in 1869, for over 45 years.

PHILADELPHIA
Sixers mural has legends, community

The Philadelphia 76ers, in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia, unveiled a wall mural featuring six team legends. Featured on the mural at the corner of Federal and Broad streets are Allen Iverson, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Charles Barkley, Hal Greer and Bobby Jones. The mural depicts key moments in Sixers history as well as the organization’s commitment to the community. The design for the mural was inspired by 11-year-old Brendan Dougherty, a student at Waldron Mercy Academy, who submitted the winning entry in the Sixers Mural Arts Contest. Artist Ernel Martinez incorporated elements of Brendan’s original artwork into the mural.

Drogba to be player-owner

Didier Drogba will become soccer’s first player-owner at Phoenix Rising FC, according to a (London) Telegraph report. Drogba had been weighing a number of offers to keep playing or step into coaching since leaving the Montreal Impact last October. The 39-year-old striker will be involved in all boardroom decisions and will learn his new role on the job while continuing to play.

Nickelodeon zone set for The Players

Nickelodeon will have a presence at The Players Championship next month, marking the first time the kids channel has attached itself to a golf event. Nickelodeon will be part of the McKenzie Noelle Wilson Foundation Kid Zone.

Blazers cap made from bottles

New Era Cap debuted its first official NBA cap made with plastic bottles, featuring the Portland Trail Blazers, thanks to the use of Repreve recycled fiber. The new, environmentally conscious New Era 9Fifty cap launched exclusively with the Trail Blazers, coinciding with NBA Green Week this month.

Giant Food presenting 20th season
Giant Food of Landover, Md., will serve as the presenting partner of the Washington Mystics’ 20th season. Throughout this season, the Mystics will honor past players and recognize the support of their fans. The Mystics open their season on May 14 against the San Antonio Stars.

RFK Stadium gets display upgrade
Daktronics partnered with Events DC to update their outdoor LED video display at RFK Stadium, home to D.C. United. The display stretches 23 feet high by 32 feet wide and features a 15HD pixel pitch.

Barça signs Chinese firm

FC Barcelona named Chinese property development company Shimao Group a regional sponsor through 2019. The deal furthers Barcelona’s expansion in China. The organizations will collaborate on social responsibility and cultural and sporting development.

GUADALAJARA, MEXICO
Chivas home games at cinemas

Chivas Guadalajara reached a two-year agreement with cinema chain Cinépolis that will see all Chivas home games carried at Cinépolis locations nationwide, according to a La Aficion report. The first match to be carried as part of this deal was the Copa MX final against Morelia on April 19.

KRAKOW, POLAND
Team renews with Coke

Polish Ekstraklasa side Wisla Krakow renewed its partnership with Coca-Cola for two years, according to a SoccerEx report. The partnership began in 2014 and will run until the end of the 2018-19 season.

LONDON
MBNA renews with Arsenal

MBNA, Arsenal FC’s official credit card partner in the U.K., renewed and expanded its partnership with the club. MBNA will build on its existing base of Arsenal card holders, providing current and new customers access to match tickets and exclusive experiences.

Spurs partner helps foundation
Bookmaker William Hill will support Tottenham Hotspur’s “Elevator Programme,” which helps young people in the borough of Haringey gain employment. The program was developed by The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, which the bookmaker will contribute to and aid as its official betting partner.

Michelin title sponsoring GP

MotoGP tire supplier Michelin will be the title sponsor of this season’s Australian GP at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. Michelin has been the sole tire supplier of MotoGP since its return last season.
