Suffolk Downs sale OK’d
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved the sale of Suffolk Downs to a Boston real estate development company, possibly marking the end of thoroughbred racing in the region after 2018, according to a Boston Herald report. A proposed Mohegan Sun casino at the track lost a bid for the sole regional casino license in 2014 to Wynn Resorts.

City seeks return on naming rights
Bridgeview, Ill., is taking steps to make money from naming rights to Toyota Park, the home of the Chicago Fire, after more than a year of letting the automaker put its name on the venue for free, according to a Crain’s Chicago Business report. W Partners was hired to sell naming rights to the stadium as well as other developments around it.
Stadium gets Safety Act designation
Gillette Stadium achieved Safety Act designation and certification, the highest level of protection awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The venue is the first MLS stadium and the fourth NFL stadium to be certified.
Honda names Astros’ club level
Houston Astros corporate partner Honda is now the official naming-rights partner of the Honda Club Level, located on the second floor of Minute Maid Park. Fans with a ticket to any Astros regular-season home game can show their Honda keys at any Honda Club Level entrance and receive access to the luxury area for themselves and one guest.
The NASL Indy Eleven signed its first internationally based sponsor, according to an Indianapolis Business Journal report. The franchise named Turkish Airlines its official international airline partner, and the airline’s logo is featured on the back of the club’s jerseys.
Royals sign new partners, renew others
The Kansas City Royals have new corporate partners and several renewals for this season. Extended partnerships are: Boulevard Brewing Co., Kansas City Steak Co., Metropolitan Community College, Miller Lite/Blue Moon, Papa John’s, Spectrum, Sweet Baby Ray’s, and Teva. New partnerships include: American Century, GreatLIFE Golf, Lexus, McDonald’s, Price Chopper, Sun Life Financial, and Unilever.
The Los Angeles Dodgers added King’s Hawaiian Grill to the lineup of dining options at Dodger Stadium this season. Located in the left field plaza, the grill will feature pulled pork sliders made with King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls, smoked pork nachos, Big Island Lava Wings and the Hawaiian BBQ Dodger Dog.
Sounds establish flagship station
The Nashville Sounds named ALT 97.5 as the team’s flagship radio station for all game broadcasts this season. The new home for Sounds baseball is part of the iHeartRadio cluster in Nashville. Game broadcasts will also be available online at www.nashvillesounds.com, as well as the MiLB First Pitch app and the iHeartRadio app.
Samsung activates at WNBA draft
The WNBA draft on Thursday will be held at Samsung 837 in New York and will feature a Samsung experiential area with a VR theater. The draft at Samsung’s flagship retail space also will coincide with leaguewide single-game ticket sales.
MSG books with HotelTonight
HotelTonight signed a partnership with Madison Square Garden, making it the official hotel booking partner of the Knicks, Rangers and the arena’s concert series. The mobile app will receive brand exposure across MSG’s events, including courtside and LED signage, dasherboard signage and features on the arena’s GardenVision.
Papa John’s adds Mets
Papa John’s is returning for the second year as the official pizza of MLB in 2017. The pizza chain also signed a deal with the New York Mets, its 22nd team partnership in the league. In the Papa Slam promotion, for every grand slam hit over the course of the regular season and postseason, fans will receive 40 percent off any pizza the following day on papajohns.com.
Aramark installed self-ordering kiosks in a concourse area behind home plate at Citizens Bank Park. Fans using Zoom Food kiosks will be able to place orders and pay for them by swiping credit or debit cards near concession stands. Orders are claimed at a nearby pick-up area. The new system also includes self-serve soda station and a self-serve beer window.
D-Backs foundation surpasses $50M
The Arizona Diamondbacks and their charitable arm, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, surpassed $50 million in charitable giving since their inception in 1998. Of that $50 million, 80 percent has been donated in just the last 11 years.
Pac-12 part of GSA summer summit
The inaugural Pac-12 Sustainability Conference at Golden 1 Center will take place June 26 as part of the 2017 Green Sports Alliance Summit. The Pac-12 is the first college conference to convene a high-level symposium focused entirely on integrating sustainability into college athletics and across college campuses.

Crows flying with China Southern
Australian Football League side Adelaide Crows signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with China Southern Airlines. The airline will be prominent across the club’s digital platform, as well as home matchdays.
Spurs OK banks for stadium funding
Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium redevelopment is a significant step closer after the club agreed to a $437 million funding package with three investment banks, according to a London Times report. HSBC, Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch will provide almost half of the money required to complete the $936 million rebuilding of White Hart Lane.
Paris bid committee adds partner
The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee unveiled its 15th official partner, Bouygues Construction, a global sustainable civil engineering and real estate development firm.
Motorola aligns with Supergiants
Indian Premier League side Rising Pune Supergiants made Motorola its team sponsor for the 10th edition of IPL. This is the first time that the handset manufacturer will be investing in an association with an IPL team. The Motorola logo will be seen on the front of the cricket team’s uniforms. Pune is 90 miles southeast of Mumbai.
Team getting cryogenic chamber
La Liga side Sevilla FC named medical manufacturer Carburos Metálicos a partner. The club will receive a cryogenic chamber and consulting from Carburos Metálicos.
Bayern Munich opens school
Bayern Munich opened their FC Bayern Football School Shenzhen. The partnership with the city-owned Shenzhen Investment Holdings Co. and the China Sports Futurity agency covers an ongoing exchange of experiences, regular visits by Bayern youth coaches and the assistance and training of Chinese coaches and players in Munich.
