Hockey’s helping hand in Arizona

The NHL, for its “Hockey Is for Everyone” initiative and the league centennial, is donating $5,000 to every NHL team to donate to its community to promote inclusiveness and diversity in hockey. The Arizona Coyotes donated to a special-needs hockey team, One Step Bobcats, which had its photo taken with the Stanley Cup when the NHL Centennial Fan Arena tour recently stopped in Tempe. The Arizona Coyotes Foundation matched the league’s donation.

Magic bringing D-League to Lakeland

The Orlando Magic and NBA Development League recently announced that the Magic has agreed to buy the Erie BayHawks and intend to relocate the team to Lakeland, Fla.: Lakeland’s Tony Delgado, Tony Camarillo of The Lakeland Center, Mark Jackson of Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing, Jim Freeman of Polk County. Dan DeVos of the Magic and the D-League team, Shelly Wilkes of D-League team, Polk County Commissioner Melony Bell, Alex Martins of the Magic and D-League team, Lakeland’s Howard Wiggs, Winter Haven’s Brad Dantzler, the Magic’s Rob Hennigan and Pat Williams, and the D-League’s Malcolm Turner.
