Montgomery, co-agent for Lin, joins Roc Nation Sports

Roger Montgomery, an NBA agent who co-represents Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin, has quietly joined Roc Nation Sports as an agent.

Montgomery, who formerly owned his own firm, Montgomery Sports Group in San Antonio, will now work with Roc Nation NBA agents, including Rich Kleiman, agent to Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant, and Joe Branch, Roc Nation Basketball managing director.

LIN
Montgomery signed Lin out of Harvard before the 2010 draft. Lin went undrafted, but grabbed headlines in 2012 as surprise breakout star for the New York Knicks. Lin brought on Jim Tanner, Tandem Sports & Entertainment president and founder, to co-represent him in 2012.

> FINANCIAL ADVISER WRITES BOOK: Leland Faust, who has spent more than 30 years as a financial adviser to hundreds of athletes, has written a book that takes on Wall Street practices.

“A Capitalist’s Lament: How Wall Street Is Fleecing You and Ruining America,” published by Skyhorse Publishing, will be available online and in bookstores today.

FAUST
“I wrote the book to share my views and experiences with the public,” said the usually press-shy Faust. “The public needs to know what is really going on with our financial system so its members can protect themselves from being taken advantage of. Also, we need to change some public policies, and the book explains why.”

Dallas-based literary agent Jan Miller represented Faust in the deal.

> PRINCE SIGNS ARTURO GATTI ESTATE: Darren Prince, who has long represented former boxer Micky Ward, has signed a deal to represent the estate of the late Arturo Gatti, which will enable him to negotiate licensing and marketing deals involving the Gatti-Ward fights.

Between May 2002 and June 2003, Ward and Gatti fought each other three times, in what some boxing analysts called one of the greatest fighting trilogies of all time. In 2009, Gatti was found dead in a hotel room in Brazil at the age of 37. His death has been the subject of controversy, investigations and media speculation. His wife, Amanda Rodrigues Gatti, was originally arrested in connection with his murder, but Brazilian police later ruled his death a suicide.

Amanda Gatti owns the estate.

Prince has represented Ward for more than a dozen years and went through a number of lawyers to get rights to represent Gatti’s estate.

“We are basically looking for licensing opportunities for his estate, as well as shopping a potential movie deal for his life story,” Prince said. Ward’s life story has already been the subject of a major motion picture, the 2010 drama, “The Fighter.”

Since getting the rights, Prince negotiated a deal with lifestyle brand Roots of Fight to sell a line of official Gatti-Ward Trilogy collection T-shirts.

Prince has never shied away from controversy. He also represents NBA Hall of Fame forward Dennis Rodman and retired professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, and has secured work and deals for them recently.

Rodman, who drew criticism after visiting North Korea at the invitation of dictator Kim Jong-un in 2014, has signed a deal with Asian online casino WeBet88.com. Prince said Rodman will appear in advertising and be part of a contest in which winners get to meet him.

Prince also has negotiated the seventh annual renewal for Hogan to appear on billboards and advertising for auto title company 800-LOAN-Mart. Earlier this year, Hogan won a $140 million judgment against Gawker.com for an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit he filed against the media company.

“Hulk is back and better than ever,” Prince said. “Hulk has never really needed to work; he just enjoys working. Any time he can cut a promo or do a commercial, he’s all over it.”

> PLAYERSREP SIGNS 3 NFL VETS: NFL boutique agency PlayersRep has signed Denver Broncos linebackers Todd Davis and Corey Nelson and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Chris Smith.

Davis was previously represented by Derrick Fox Inc., Nelson by KMM Sports and Smith by Allegiant Athletic Agency.
