Spain gets a spot on ESPN radio schedule

ESPN tapped Sarah Spain to host a daily radio show, making her ESPN’s first regular daily female radio host since The Fabulous Sports Babe left in 2001.

Spain, who is in the process of signing a long-term deal with ESPN, replaces Jorge Sedano in the 9-11 p.m. ET time slot, and will be paired with Izzy Gutierrez.

As part of her new deal with ESPN, Spain will appear on “SportsCenter” and “Around the Horn,” and she will continue to contribute to espnW.

It will be unique to hear a female voice host on an ESPN Radio show. Jen Lada co-hosted an evening show with Sedano for five weeks last year before moving to ESPN’s digital platforms.

Spain is part of a group of women that has had much more visibility on ESPN platforms recently, including Kate Fagan, Jane McManus and Jemele Hill. Spain is best known for her versatility — she appears regularly in print, radio and television — combining strong reporting with a big personality that ESPN higher-ups like. One of her best-known stories came earlier this year when she reported from Rob Gronkowski’s inaugural Gronk Boat party cruise, which she parlayed into popular content on all of ESPN’s platforms.

Spain had been a weekly Sunday morning co-host of “Stu and Spain” with Jon “Stugotz” Weiner. Mike Golic Jr. will replace her on that show.

Spain is repped by Steve Mandell at Gameplan.
