Wasserman picks up two young NBAers for representation

Wasserman has signed Denver Nuggets guard Emmanuel Mudiay and Toronto Raptors forward Bruno Caboclo for exclusive representation on and off the court.

Mudiay was represented by Rival Sports Group. Caboclo was represented by Independent Sports Group.

At Wasserman, both players will be represented by a team led by B.J. Armstrong.

Caboclo, the No. 20 overall draft pick in 2014, will be eligible for an extension of his playing contract next summer. Mudiay, the No. 7 overall pick in 2015, will be eligible for a contract extension in the summer of 2018.

Both players have shoe deals with Under Armour but do not have any other endorsements. Armstrong and other Wasserman agents will work to get them marketing and endorsement deals.

> AUTHENTIC SIGNS FOUR: Authentic Athletix has signed four veteran NFL players, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Akeem Spence, who will be a free agent after this season.

Denver-based Authentic also signed Denver Broncos cornerback Taurean Nixon, New York Jets running back Dominique Williams and Detroit Lions tight end Andrew Quarless.

Authentic Athletix founder Peter Schaffer represents all four players.

Spence was represented by Envisage Sports, Nixon by agent Martin Fischman, Williams by Easton Sports Group and Quarless by agent Chris Cabott.

Cabott said he decided to terminate his contract with Quarless in December. “Andrew is someone I love and believe in, but I didn’t think it made sense to work together anymore. I’m happy to see that he has secured representation and is back in the NFL,” Cabott said.

Schaffer, who represented Quarless when the Packers drafted him out of Penn State in the fifth round in 2010, expressed gratitude for being able to represent Quarless again and negotiate a deal for him with the Lions.

The NFL suspended Quarless for the first two games of this season for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy after Quarless was charged with firing a gun in public in the summer of 2015. He pleaded no contest and received a sentence that included six months probation.

> HOLLY ROWE TO IF: IF Management has signed three new broadcasting clients, including former NFL and Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk.

IF Management also signed former MLB outfielder and first baseman Michael Morse and ABC/ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe. Gideon Cohen, IF Management senior vice president, will represent all three. None of the new clients was previously represented for broadcast work.

Hawk, the No. 5 overall pick in 2006 by the Packers, was released by the Bengals earlier this year. He hosts his own podcast, “The HawkCast,” which is how Cohen said he became aware of Hawk’s interest in broadcasting.

“A.J. is highly motivated to pursue a media career in a variety of areas — football, sports and non-sports,” Cohen said.

Morse has been appearing on media outlets including MLB Network, CBS Sports Radio and Sirius/XM after playing for more than a decade in the big leagues.

Rowe, as was widely reported, had surgery in February to remove a cancerous tumor from her chest. “It has been well-documented what an inspiration Holly has been in her battle with cancer and how respected she is in her outstanding career as a sideline reporter for ESPN,” Cohen said. “We are ecstatic and honored to begin working for her.”

> LISICKI PICKS OCTAGON: Octagon has signed German WTA Tour player Sabine Lisicki to a worldwide, multiyear representation agreement.

Octagon agent David Tosas Ros will represent her. Lisicki has been without representation for about a year, though IMG represented her early in her career.

Lisicki was No. 84 last week in the WTA’s rankings.
