Boys & Girls Clubs get New Era boost

New Era Cap Co. committed $20,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo’s 2016 Wanna Play? summer program. The program is designed for boys and girls to increase their overall fitness through physical activity and improved education while learning the fundamental skills of baseball and softball.

The space includes custom flooring, furniture, TVs and replica locker stalls.

Jackets renewal includes bus, lounge

The Columbus Blue Jackets and OhioHealth reached a multiyear renewal of their corporate partnership. The newest component is a 50-foot promotional truck that has been co-branded and customized to convert into a fully furnished lounge area where fans can gather at CBJ Mobile Tour stops across Ohio.

Golf Outing teeing

    Registration is continuing for the sixth annual World’s Largest Golf Outing on Aug. 1. Golfers of all skill levels can register online to participate in the simultaneous outing, projected to be played at more than 150 courses across America. Part of the proceeds and all donations from players and nonplayers benefit Fisher House Foundation, which provides free, temporary lodging for families to be near loved ones receiving medical care at major military and Veterans Affairs medical centers. Last year, 12,397 golfers, including 567 wounded warriors, teed it up at 132 courses in 28 states and raised a record $1,024,287.

KANSAS CITY
Sporting KC center breaks ground

Sporting Kansas City parent company Sporting Club, U.S. Soccer and Children’s Mercy Hospital broke ground on the National Training and Coaching Development Center, according to a Kansas City Star report. The $62 million development will serve as a home base for Sporting KC, and as a training and education center for U.S. Soccer coaches and referees. It is scheduled to be completed in November 2017.

LOS ANGELES
New Era finds room at L.A. Live

New Era is opening a branded store at L.A. Live under a founding sponsorship agreement it has signed with AEG. The 3,160-square-foot New Era D-Lab store is scheduled to open in the Staples Center on Dec. 1, and it will include a variety of customization options for customers. New Era will become the exclusive headwear provider at L.A. Live.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
Stadium plans move to City Council

The St. Paul planning commission approved plans for a 20,000-seat, soccer-specific stadium for use by Minnesota United FC when it joins Major League Soccer, according to a St. Paul Pioneer Press report. The plans now move to the City Council for approval, with a vote tentatively scheduled for Aug. 10.

NEWTON, IOWA
IndyCar events remain through 2018

Iowa Speedway agreed to a two-year extension that will see the track host IndyCar races for the next two years, according to a Des Moines Register report. The next Iowa Corn 300 is set for July 9, 2017, followed by another race on July 8, 2018. Both races fall on Sundays.

Ballpark garden gets healthy sponsor

The Garden at AT&T Park has a new sponsor: One Medical Group. The 4,320-square-foot garden, behind the center field wall, opened in 2014. Fans can enjoy farm-to-table meals at two bistros located inside The Garden. The space also serves as an outdoor classroom where people can learn about urban farming and healthy eating. “One Medical is committed to partnering with our patients to help them live healthier lives,” said Scott Kabat, One Medical chief marketing officer. “Nutrition is one of the cornerstones of healthy living, so sponsoring The Garden at AT&T Park was a natural fit for us.”

Teams’ owner invests in retro apparel

7th Inning Stretch made an investment in Seattle-based Ebbets Field Flannels. Established in 1988, Ebbets Field Flannels specializes in creating authentic garments from the late 19th to mid-20th century. This marks the first investment by 7th Inning Stretch, which owns the Stockton Ports, the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Everett AquaSox, that was not team related.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.
Wake, IMG extend deal to 2027

Wake Forest University’s longtime rights holder, IMG, and the school have agreed on a multimedia rights and licensing extension that will go out to 2027. The new portion of the deal will provide IMG with additional rights that include the floor apron at Wake Forest’s Lawrence Joel Coliseum, field-level signage at BB&T Field, concourse and entryway branding for both football and basketball venues, and new social media opportunities.

BOCHUM, GERMANY
Real estate firm naming stadium

Second Bundesliga club VfL Bochum found a new stadium naming-rights partner, local real estate company Vonovia. The company secured the naming rights for five years through June 2021. The contract is valid for the Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga and 3rd League.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
Country lands swimming trifecta

Hungary will stage the 2020 European swimming, water polo and open water championships, the first time one country has been chosen to host all three events, according to a Reuters report. The water polo, swimming, diving and synchronized swimming events will be in Budapest.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
Cricket teams sign principal partner

CUA, Australia’s largest member-based financial services provider, agreed to a three-year deal to be the principal partner of the Brisbane Heat in cricket’s T20 Big Bash League. CUA will be featured on the Heat men’s and women’s uniforms.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
Fortuna renews with betting partner

Second Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf renewed its partnership with betting company Tipbet. The second-tier sponsor will remain the club’s official betting partner and receive marketing opportunities, including logo presence on LED boards. The deal was brokered by Infront Sports & Media.

HOFFENHEIM, GERMANY
Club signs 2-year deal with Prowin

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim agreed to a new sponsorship deal with cleaning product seller Prowin. As part of the two-year deal, the company will receive logo presence in camera view and a hospitality package.

LONDON
Betdaq sews into Charlton kits

League One side Charlton Athletic named Betdaq as its new shirt sponsor ahead of the 2016-17 season. The betting exchange company signed a three-year deal to become principal partner of the club, and its logo will be featured on the front of the club’s new home and away kits for 2016-17.

MEXICO CITY
Para sports fest planned for 2017

Mexico City will stage a nine-day festival of para sports between Sept. 29 and Oct. 7, as the city stages the 2017 world para swimming and para powerlifting championships. The events are expected to attract 900 athletes from 65 countries.

NAPLES, ITALY
Team keeps tap open for Lete

Serie A side Napoli agreed to a one-year extension with long-standing shirt sponsor Lete, according to a SoccerEx report. The new deal will take the Italian spring water producer’s relationship with the club to a 12th straight year.

RIO DE JANEIRO
Board denies most Russian applications

The IAAF’s Doping Review Board turned down applications from 67 Russian athletes to compete as “neutral” individuals, following a blanket ban on the country’s track and field athletes for systematic doping, according to a Reuters report. Only one application had been approved, from long jumper Darya Klishina, out of 68 requests made.
