ATC extends PNC sponsorship

Atlanta Track Club and PNC Bank agreed to a multiyear extension of their relationship, which began in 2013. The agreement designates PNC Bank as the exclusive and official bank for all of Atlanta Track Club’s business units through 2020.

BUFFALO
New Bills ice cream debuts

Perry’s Ice Cream rolled out a new Buffalo Bills-themed brand, called Sundae at the Ralph. The new flavor has vanilla ice cream with hot fudge swirls, peanut butter footballs, and red and blue sprinkles. Based in Akron, N.Y., Perry’s is the official ice cream of the Bills.

CHARLOTTE
Upgrades set for Halton Arena

The University of North Carolina, Charlotte, selected Daktronics to produce a new center-hung LED video display system at Halton Arena. Four main LED displays will form a square configuration with one ring-shaped display above and one below the main displays. The main displays will each measure more than 9 feet high by 16.5 feet wide.

HONOLULU
Aloha Stadium replacing turf

Aloha Stadium’s 5-year-old artificial turf is being torn out and upgraded, according to a Honolulu Star-Advertiser report. Stadium manager Scott Chan said the $1.2 million overhaul is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 5. The project is intended to be part of an effort by local officials to bring the NFL back to the city. Next year’s NFL Pro Bowl is set for Orlando.

HOUSTON
New displays, facades for Rice

Rice University and IMG College hired Daktronics to provide a new main video display and audio facades for Rice Stadium. The main video display will measure 29 feet high by 49 feet wide. Two acoustically transparent video displays, each 29 feet high by 10 feet wide, will be placed in front of the venue’s speaker systems, as well.

JACKSONVILLE
Distillery signs Suns sponsorship

Marlin & Barrel Distillery agreed to a sponsorship deal with the Jacksonville Suns, adding in-stadium signage and table-top features with Marlin & Barrel products at Suns games at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Suns are the Class AA affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

LOS ANGELES
Dodgers plan annual Japan Night

The Los Angeles Dodgers will play host to their annual Japan Night presented by Japan House on July 26. Japan House is a new initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to showcase various aspects and values of the country. The first 40,000 fans in attendance at Dodger Stadium on July 26 will receive a bobblehead of Dodgers pitcher Kenta Maeda presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino.

MADISON, WIS.
UW transitions to Fanatics, Under Armour

Fanatics has taken over as the e-commerce provider for the University of Wisconsin. As of the start of the month, Fanatics is operating a new online school store at buckyslockerroom.com. UW fans also now have access to a custom mobile site. The transition comes as Wisconsin also at the start of the month moved from Adidas to Under Armour as its new athletic apparel supplier under a 10-year deal.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
Generator Studio working on stadium

Kansas City-based architecture firm Generator Studio has added the Minnesota Vikings to its roster of clients. The firm is working on a $7.5 million, 17,500-square-foot expansion on the upper suite level of the Vikings’ new U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Vikings are preparing to open U.S. Bank Stadium this month.

Wolves, Lynx welcome new owners
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx have two new minority-stake owners and limited partners. They are Lizhang (John) Jiang, founder and chairman of Shanghai Double-Edged Sports Co., and Meyer Orbach, chairman of the New York-based Orbach Group. Jiang becomes the first Chinese citizen to have an ownership stake in an NBA team.

NEW YORK
Puma partners with NYC Ballet

Puma is aligning with the New York City Ballet as its official off-stage active wear partner. Beginning in October, a number of dancers from the ballet company will be featured in Puma creative and marketing campaigns intended to highlight women in sports and culture.

ORLANDO
D-League options narrowed

The Orlando Magic has narrowed its list of choices for the site of a D-League affiliate to Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee and The Lakeland Center, according to a (Florida) Times-Union report. Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena and ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista also were considered. Team officials are looking to have a site to host a team that could begin play in 2017.

PHILADELPHIA

Eagles sign waste solution partner
The Philadelphia Eagles signed a multiyear partnership with Waste Masters Solutions. Waste Masters will serve as the team’s waste solution partner at Lincoln Financial Field and the NovaCare Complex, the Eagles’ practice facility. The Eagles and Waste Masters will collaborate on all efforts related to recycling and waste disposal.

Sixers report strong ticket sales
The Philadelphia 76ers said they’ve sold more than 2,000 new season tickets between the end of the regular season and the end of draft day last month. Fueling the sales was Philadelphia winning the NBA draft lottery in May, and the team ultimately using that No. 1 overall pick to select LSU’s Ben Simmons. The team also had about 4,000 people turn out for a free draft party outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art on draft night.

Flyers marking 50 years
The Philadelphia Flyers unveiled more details about their plans to celebrate the organization’s 50th anniversary next season. The team will host five Heritage Nights, with one a month from October through February. Those efforts will be Flyers Hall of Fame Night, Tough Guys Night, Goalies Night, Playoff Heroes Night and Captains Night. The Flyers also will kick off their 50th anniversary celebration on the season’s opening night with an exclusive “50 Years of Flyers Hockey” retrospective and a tribute to late owner Ed Snider, who died in April.

PIR dipping with El Sol

El Sol Foods, a family-owned and operated business based in Gilbert, Ariz., was named the official salsa of Phoenix International Raceway. El Sol will be an official partner for the track’s Nov. 11-13 NASCAR race weekend.

SAN DIEGO
Ruling hurts Chargers’ stadium effort

The California Supreme Court temporarily blocked an appellate court ruling that said tax increases such as the San Diego Chargers’ stadium initiative need approval from a simple majority instead of a two-thirds vote. The team wants San Diego residents to vote for an initiative that would raise hotel taxes from 12.5 percent to 16.5 percent to help pay for a new stadium and convention center.

SAN FRANCISCO
49ers to practice at Kezar Stadium

The San Francisco 49ers are heading back to San Francisco in recognition of the team’s 70th anniversary with a practice at Kezar Stadium on Aug. 10, according to a Sacramento Bee report. About 9,000 fans will be admitted to the session, which will be followed by a youth football exhibition. The balance of the team’s training camp is held in Santa Clara, Calif.

Toyota extends race sponsorship

Toyota and the Northern California Toyota Dealers signed a three-year extension to continue as co-title sponsor of the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. Toyota has served as co-title sponsor of the Toyota/Save Mart 350, as well as the raceway’s official vehicle, since 2007.

WASHINGTON, D.C.
Caps help collect equipment donations

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation and the Washington Capitals, along with the nonprofit Leveling The Playing Field, collected more than 1,600 hockey equipment donations from October through March. Those donations in turn were presented to several schools and organizations, allowing nearly 20,000 area youth to be exposed to hockey.

DOHA, QATAR
NBA Stores opening in region

The NBA and Al Mana Fashion Group agreed to a partnership that will see the opening of the first NBA Store sites in the Middle East. The first two stores are scheduled to open in Doha during the 2016-17 NBA season, with additional stores in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to follow.

KYOTO, JAPAN
Rugby World Cup draw set for May

The draw for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan will be hosted in Kyoto in May of next year. The staging of the draw event, which will be conducted outside Britain or Ireland for the first time, was agreed upon after Japan Rugby 2019 CEO Akira Shimazu and World Rugby visited Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa.

Cricket museum sale underway

Yorkshire County Cricket Club is in the process of selling its cricket museum to keep valuable memorabilia out of the hands of liquidators should the club ever go into administration, according to a (London) Telegraph report. The proceeds of the sale will be used to help pay interest on club debts.

Reds bet on BetVictor
Liverpool FC signed bookmaker BetVictor as its new training kit partner. The three-year deal will see BetVictor become one of Liverpool’s principal partners as well as its official global online betting partner.

MADRID
Real Madrid installs Hankook Tire

Hankook Tire and Real Madrid signed a sponsorship agreement for three seasons that takes effect this month, according to a Tire Review report. Hankook will have perimeter advertising during all home games at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and a range of global marketing rights.

MANCHESTER
Man City adds digital ‘bot’

Manchester City launched a Messenger bot to give supporters a club perspective on news and topics surrounding the team. Fans can visit the Man City Facebook account and open the Messenger tab. The bot will also send fans wallpapers, photos and links to behind-the-scenes videos.

MUNICH
Marathon adds to partner roster

Munich Marathon organizers secured two new main sponsors for the Oct. 9 event. Insurance company Generali becomes the official sponsor and health partner of the race, and Munich Airport becomes an official partner. They join BMW and the city of Munich as main sponsors of the marathon.

PARIS
Tour de France renews Bostik

Construction adhesive specialist Bostik renewed its sponsorship of the Tour de France. Four branded vehicles featuring the Bostik logo are participating in the tour’s Publicity Caravan, which precedes the peloton for each stage of the race. Spectators receive various giveaways and coupons.

PYEONGCHANG, S. KOREA
Olympics recruiting 22,000 volunteers

Organizers of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games started their volunteer recruiting campaign, hoping to bring on more than 22,000 people, according to a Yonhap report. The Pyeongchang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will take online applications through September.
