PBI Sports & Entertainment picks up three NHL coaches

P BI Sports & Entertainment has signed NHL coaches Mike Sullivan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, John Tortorella of the Columbus Blue Jackets and John Hynes of the New Jersey Devils for representation.

Neil Glasberg, president and founder of PBI, is representing the coaches. Hynes and Sullivan were previously without representation. Maxx Sports & Entertainment represents Tortorella for broadcasting work, but he was without representation for other work.

All the coaches have long-term deals with their respective clubs, so Glasberg is looking for corporate speaking deals as well as endorsements for them.

“Professional coaches representation is a relatively new niche, especially in hockey, and the endorsement opportunities for professional coaches are just sort of in their infancy stages,” Glasberg said. “The point

is, if you are an advertiser you are not necessarily going to think of a hockey coach for an endorsement.”

In addition to being product spokesmen, Glasberg said, hockey coaches are speakers who know about strategy and thinking on their feet. “These guys have to think up strategy changes by the nanosecond,” Glasberg said.

Glasberg formed Toronto-based PBI, which represents about 50 clients for marketing, in 2011 after serving as the chairman of the Special Olympics for Canada. PBI has one other NHL coach as a client, Gerard Gallant of the Florida Panthers. The firm also represents active and retired athletes, Olympians and broadcasters.

> SCHWARTZ & FEINSOD SIGNS WARMACK: Schwartz & Feinsod has signed Tennessee Titans guard Chance Warmack, the No. 10 pick in the 2013 draft, for representation.

Partners Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod will represent Warmack, who is set to become a free agent in 2017 after the Titans declined to pick up their fifth-year option on him. Warmack was formerly represented by Relativity Sports.

Schwartz & Feinsod were in the news recently after their longtime client, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, for whom they negotiated more than $100 million in playing contract value, terminated them. Revis had not signed with a new agent as of early last week.

In other NFL agent switches:

Carolina Panthers guard Trai Turner has left CAA Sports for Impact Sports agent Ron Butler.

Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson has left Relativity Sports for Sportstars agents Alan Herman and Jared Fox.

Titans running back Antonio Andrews has left Sportstars for SportsTrust Advisors agent Bill Johnson.

New Orleans Saints guard Tim Lelito has left D. Todd Williams PC for Element Sports Group agents Michael Perrett and Kevin McGuire.

> YEE & DUBIN SIGN BATTIER: Los Angeles-based Yee & Dubin has signed former NBA forward Shane Battier for representation for opportunities including broadcasting, endorsements and basketball management work.
Shantal Lamelas will represent Battier.

“Shantal Lamelas works closely with Shane, and our focus is helping him sort through post-career transition issues and projects,” Yee & Dubin partner Don Yee wrote in an email.

Lamelas has worked with other athletes on post-playing career work, including former NFL linebackers Scott Fujita and Dhani Jones. Battier has broadcast, NBA management and social project opportunities, Yee said.

Battier had been represented by WME but has been without representation for a while. He retired from the NBA in 2014 and worked for a year as a college basketball analyst for ESPN.
