Counting Comcast: 18 platforms to authenticate

My BS detector went off last week when I was interviewing Matt Strauss, Comcast’s executive vice president and general manager of video services.

When I asked Strauss about the problems with password sharing, he prefaced his comments by noting that Comcast authenticates 18 platforms.

Eighteen? I could barely name five.

“You have to look at the game consoles, the Internet-connected TVs like Samsung, the Blu-ray players,” he said. “It demonstrates our commitment to TV Everywhere and our commitment to making it easier for customers to have a choice about where they want to consume their content.”

Here’s a list of the 18 platforms that Comcast authenticates.

1. Web
2. iPhone
3. iPad
4. Android smartphone
5. Android tablet
6. Kindle Fire
7. Xbox 360 (far right)
8. Xbox One
9. Windows 8 phone
10. Windows 8 tablet
11. Nabi tablet
12. Roku
13. Roku TV
14. Apple TV
15. Samsung TV
16. Amazon Fire TV (right)
17. Amazon Fire TV Stick
18. Chromecast
