Daktronics stays home for project

Brookings-based Daktronics partnered with South Dakota State University to bring a 31-by-100-foot digital display to Coughlin-Alumni Stadium for the football team’s final campaign at the facility. Construction began last summer on Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, to be completed in September 2016.

BUFFALO

Bills sign Sahlen’s as official dog
The Buffalo Bills added Sahlen’s Hot Dogs to the team’s list of corporate sponsors. The food company has operated in Buffalo since 1869 and will now have its products sold at Ralph Wilson Stadium as well as the Bills’ training camp at St. John Fisher College. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CHARLOTTE
Novant added to health of ASG bid

Novant Health made a crucial last-minute commitment to sponsor the local organizing campaign to raise as much as $6 million for the city to host the 2017 NBA All-Star Game. The city of Charlotte, the Hornets and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority committed $5.9 million in private and public services and money to host the NBA.

CHICAGO
Bulls, Sox switching to WLS

The Chicago Bulls, White Sox and Cumulus Media reached a multiyear deal making WLS-AM the teams’ flagship radio station through 2021. Sox games will air on WLS beginning with the 2016 season, while Bulls games will move to the station for the 2016-17 season. ESPN Radio 1000 Chicago has been the Bulls’ primary flagship station since 1996 and WSCR-AM has held that role for the Sox since 2006.

DETROIT
Tigers’ 50/50 effort passes $1 million

The Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, surpassed $1 million raised for local charities through its 50/50 Raffle program at Comerica Park since its inception in 2008. The raffle at Comerica Park continues at remaining 2015 Friday and Saturday regular-season home games.

EDMONTON
New NLL franchise on radar

Rexall Place operator Northlands’ president and CEO, Tim Reid, said that he will work to get a new National Lacrosse League franchise after the Edmonton Rush’s move to Saskatoon, according to an Edmonton Journal report. The Rush won the 2015 championship but was second-to-last in the nine-team league in attendance with an average of 6,578.

INDIANAPOLIS
Pacers trending to high renewal rate

The Indiana Pacers expect to hit a season-ticket renewal rate of 95 percent by season tipoff, according to an Indianapolis Business Journal report. Meanwhile, the team’s sponsorship sales are up about 20 percent over last season. It has signed deals recently with Red Bull, FanDuel, Gatorade, Papa John’s, Community Health Network, UPS, Steak n Shake, Finish Line and Stanley Tools.

Derby, Oaks logos unveiled

Churchill Downs revealed the official logos for the 142nd Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. The logos were designed by New York-based SME, which has developed the Derby and Oaks marks since 2007.

MIAMI
Beckham gets tentative green light

A tentative deal was reached for David Beckham’s MLS group to build a privately financed soccer stadium on city land next to Marlins Park. Architects have concluded that there is no need to alter roadways around the site.

Pelicans swoop in at airport

When travelers arrive through Myrtle Beach International Airport, they are now met by vinyl advertisements at baggage claim with information about the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Pelicans jerseys indicate carousel numbers. The Pelicans, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, reached a partnership with the Horry County Department of Airports for the deal.

Webb pleads not guilty

Former CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb pleaded not guilty July 18 at an arraignment in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn to bribery charges. Webb and his lawyer, Edward O’Callaghan, agreed to a deal that would allow the former soccer official to be released on $10 million bail.

Penguins renew with ice-cold sponsor

The Pittsburgh Penguins renewed their agreement with Rita’s Italian Ice. The one-year deal includes print advertising and digital signs. In addition, Rita’s Italian Ice is also a concessionaire partner of the team.

Spurs’ Diaw pens safari adventure

San Antonio Spurs power forward Boris Diaw has a new book out: “Hoops to Hippos! True Stories of a Basketball Star on Safari” (National Geographic Kids Books). Young readers can join Diaw as he escapes from stampeding wildebeests, comes face to face with lions, and discovers why you should never come between a hippo and its watery home.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.
City Council wants more track control

The Saratoga Springs City Council unanimously approved a resolution calling for greater jurisdictional control over state-owned Saratoga Race Course, according to an (Albany) Times-Union report. Council members said they were concerned the NYRA Reorganization Board, established in 2012, did not discuss with them major changes proposed for the 152-year-old track.

Team signs third betting partner
Marathonbet will be joining Liverpool FC’s suite of regional betting brands, signing a three-year deal. Marathonbet, which joins 188Bet and Comeon! as regional betting partners, taps into Liverpool’s fan base through stadium branding at Anfield, access to players, and exposure through digital platforms.

Gosling’s goes sailing
Gosling’s was named the official rum and ginger beer of the 35th America’s Cup, which includes two years of America’s Cup World Series events. The agreement began with the America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth, on the south coast of England, which was to take place this past weekend.

HSBC signs 5-year Open renewal
HSBC renewed its agreement as a patron of the Open Championship and will continue as the official banking partner of the event. The new five-year agreement was announced at the 144th Open at St Andrews.

SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND
Betfair partners with team
EPL side Sunderland AFC agreed to a deal with Betfair, which becomes the club’s official U.K. betting partner. Betfair will use the club’s platforms to connect with fans in the U.K. and will appear on the club’s LED screens and interview backdrops.

TOKYO
Expensive stadium plan scrapped
Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that the new National Stadium to be built for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be redesigned from scratch, according to multiple reports. The estimated cost for the stadium was originally $1 billion, but it soared to $2.1 billion recently. The government will set a target below $1.6 billion.

Arca renews with Liga MX team
Coca-Cola-owned beverage company Arca Continental, the second-largest bottler in Latin America, and Liga MX club Santos Laguna announced that Arca Continental will return to sponsor the club in a three-year deal.
