ATLANTA
Fan bridge could cost $12 million

A bridge at the Atlanta Braves’ SunTrust Park that will carry pedestrians and trams over 15 lanes of interstate highway could cost taxpayers about $3 million more than Cobb County officials have previously acknowledged, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report. The county has told the public for the past year that the span over Interstate 285 would cost $9 million at most.

BALTIMORE
Attendance, handle up at Preakness

The Maryland Jockey Club reported record attendance of 131,680 for the May 16 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course, as well as an increase in pari-mutuel handle from last year’s event. The attendance figure topped last year’s record of 123,469. Total handle was $85.16 million, up 1.64 percent from last year.

BOSTON
‘Dog Day at Fenway’ planned

Fenway Park will host a “Dog Day at Fenway” event, presented by NutriSource Super Premium Pet Foods, on June 29. Fans can bring their dogs to the ballpark for walks around the warning track from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults. Children 14 and under and dogs enter free of charge.

BUFFALO
Allen & Co. tapped for Sabres

Pegula Sports & Entertainment hired Allen & Co. to deal with the Buffalo Sabres’ media rights issues, according to a Buffalo News report. The Sabres’ deal with MSG Network has two more seasons. Sources said that the team will get a $10 million rights fee in the contract’s final season and keep all advertising revenue, which could approach an additional $3 million to $5 million annually.

The main side-facing displays will be about 15 feet high by 28 feet wide.

New displays planned for arena

Polk County and Global Spectrum selected Daktronics to design, manufacture and install a new center-hung LED video display at Wells Fargo Arena. Three new marquee displays will be installed outside the arena, home to the NBA D-League’s Iowa Energy and the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild.

Belmont Stakes seats sold out

The NYRA announced last week that all reserved seats for the June 6 Belmont Stakes Day are officially sold out. The race will feature American Pharoah attempting to become the 12th horse to win the Triple Crown and the first since Affirmed in 1978.

GREEN BAY
District has option to dissolve

The Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District has the option of dissolving after the sales tax that paid for the 2003 renovation of Lambeau Field is terminated in September, according to a Green Bay Press-Gazette report. The district also can continue at least until the Packers’ lease expires in 2031.

INDIANAPOLIS
IMS schedules ‘Project 100’

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is investing more than $30 million in improvements as part of a public/private partnership called “Project 100,” according to an Indianapolis Star report. With winter factored in, the construction timeline is about five months. The 100th running of the Indy 500 will be in 2016.

KANSAS CITY

Ticket buyers are paying an average of $279 a game for the best seat in the house, compared to $230 for the same seat in 2012.

Royals’ success reflected in tickets
The price of Kansas City Royals tickets sold by independent vendors is trending up, according to a Kansas City Star report. Ticket brokers are selling at prices 10 percent to 30 percent higher than last year. SeatGeek data shows that since 2013, the average value of tickets sold or resold in the secondary market has jumped from $28 to $41 for an outfield box seat.

Cosmos get straightened out

The New York Cosmos partnered with Block Chiropractic Sports and Wellness, making Block the official chiropractor of the team. Block Chiropractic branding will be present on game days at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium, as well as the club’s official website.

PHILADELPHIA

Sixers’ logos revealed; unis planned
The Philadelphia 76ers introduced new team logos and plan to come out with new uniforms in mid-June. The new primary logo, in the team’s words, is a “modern interpretation of the classic Sixers insignia, stylistically redeveloped to include a patriotic blue border with six white stars and ‘PHILADELPHIA’ adorned across the heading.” A secondary logo features Ben Franklin dribbling a basketball.

Steelers stick with tiered pricing

The Pittsburgh Steelers will continue the variable ticket pricing plan they instituted last year, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report. There are three tiers of prices for season-ticket holders: preseason, black and gold. This year, the gold tier has games against Arizona, Cincinnati, Oakland, Indianapolis and Denver. The black tier features San Francisco, Baltimore and Cleveland.

Moda Center retains LEED Gold

Rip City Management scored a victory with the recertification of Moda Center as LEED Gold certified. The award was bestowed by the U.S. Green Building Council, creator of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system.

New slogan for Winter Games
Pyeongchang Olympics organizers marked the 1,000-day countdown to the 2018 Games at a ceremony in Seoul, announcing a new slogan: “Passion. Connected.” POCOG Chairman Cho Yang-ho said that the slogan represents a desire to bring winter sports into the limelight on the global stage.

SINGAPORE
Olympic council signs airline
Singapore Airlines partnered with the Singapore National Olympic Council as the official airline for Team Singapore through April 2018, according to a Straits Times report. The airline will provide tickets for Team Singapore athletes and officials who are traveling to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro; the 2017 Asian Youth Games in Hambantota, Sri Lanka; and the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

SYDNEY
Sydney Olympic rings discovered
The five massive Olympic rings from the Sydney Harbour Bridge were sold for $17,000, according to an AP report. The steel rings, measuring 230 by 130 feet when assembled and weighing 110,000 pounds, had been in a storage shed south of Sydney. When businessman Bernard Maas recently bought the shed, he discovered the rings inside.

Abbott ran with Great Wall Marathon
Biotechnology firm Abbott sponsored the May 16 Great Wall Marathon for the first time, expanding its strategy of connecting with notable marathons that it began last year. The deal called for extensive branding on T-shirts, bibs, at the start/finish line and each kilometer marker along the route, which included the top of the Great Wall of China for about seven miles.
