Mizuno USA selects agency
Mizuno USA named 22squared its agency of record in the Americas region. With offices in Atlanta and Tampa, 22squared will serve as Mizuno USA’s agency on all advertising and marketing communications, including creative, strategy, media planning and buying, content creation, and social media.

BUFFALO
Labatt USA supporting sled hockey
Labatt USA pledged to donate at least $250,000 from sales of specially marked beer cases to fund at least 10 new sled hockey teams. The Buffalo-based company made the announcement during the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships held at the HarborCenter.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS
Kyle Field gets Wi-Fi boost
Texas A&M University teamed with Corning Optical Communications and IBM to install a new Wi-Fi system at Kyle Field, according to a (Bryan-College Station) Eagle report. Todd Christner, Corning director of wireless business development, said the system includes 1,090 antennas throughout the stadium.

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.
10,000-seat installation begins
Crews at Daytona International Speedway last week began installing 10,000 seats on the east end of the frontstretch grandstands, according to a Daytona Beach News-Journal report. The $400 million Daytona Rising project is on target to meet the deadline for the July 4 weekend events at the track.

EDMONTON
Katz partners on film company
Film producer Joel Silver is partnering with Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz to create Silver Pictures Entertainment, a company that will develop, produce, and provide/arrange for financing on feature films, TV and digital projects.

JOLIET, ILL.
Slammers seen on the big screen
Daktronics has designed, manufactured and installed a new LED video display for Silver Cross Field, home to the Frontier League’s Joliet Slammers. The new display measures more than 25 feet high by 35 feet wide and features variable content zoning.

NBPA starting awards ceremony
The National Basketball Players Association confirmed that the union will debut the Basketball Players Awards in Las Vegas this July. Awards will be presented in categories including MVP, Best Rookie, Man of the Year, Global Impact Player and Best Home Court Advantage.

New sideline boxes sold out
The Miami Dolphins have sold out their sideline “living room” boxes at Sun Life Stadium for the 2015 season. A limited number of end zone living room boxes remain available. The boxes make up the 72 Club and have a season-ticket price of $1,875 a person per game. Additionally, roughly 90 percent of the stadium’s lower-bowl seats have been sold, as have all club-level season tickets, according to a Miami Herald report.

ORLANDO
Magic puts app on Apple Watch
The Orlando Magic launched a version of its team app for Apple Watch. Orlando is among the first pro sports teams to offer its app through the new technology.

PHILADELPHIA
Jaworski adds a country club
Ron Jaworski Golf, a group led by former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski, acquired the Downingtown (Pa.) Country Club in suburban Philadelphia. The 6,619-yard, par-72 course is the sixth for Jaworski’s company.

Regatta renews with sponsor
County Line Fence Co. renewed its sponsorship with the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta for a fourth consecutive year. The 2015 regatta will be held May 8-9 on the Schuylkill River. The 77-year-old event attracts more than 125 universities and colleges, 3,300 rowers and 25,000 spectators.

Thousands attend fiesta
The Arizona Diamondbacks held their second Fiesta de la Familia of the season outside Chase Field on April 26. The Los D-backs Fiesta de la Familia, presented by Fry’s Food Stores, was a joint effort with Univision Deportes and attracted about 5,000 fans to the Luis Coronel concert, as well as the televised Liga MX match between Club America and Chivas de Guadalajara, shown on the big screen.

PITTSBURGH
Pirates sign with automotive group
The Pittsburgh Pirates reached a deal with the Baierl Automotive Group that makes the company presenting partner of the Pirates Friday Night Block Parties as well as a presenting partner of various segments on Pittsburgh’s regular-season radio broadcasts. The partnership also includes signage throughout PNC Park.

SAN DIEGO
Stadium switches to Sportservice
The San Diego City Council approved a new five-year concession agreement with Delaware North Sportservice for Qualcomm Stadium, according to a San Diego Union-Tribune report. Sportservice, which also handles concessions at Petco Park, will replace longtime Qualcomm concessionaire Centerplate.

ABUJA, NIGERIA
Nike outfitting national teams
Nike and the Nigeria Football Federation reached a deal for designing and developing jerseys for the country’s men and women’s national soccer teams until at least 2018. Nike also is designing performance and training apparel and equipment for the Nigerian national team players.

BARCELONA
Barça, Fitness Time reach deal
FC Barcelona and Fitness Time agreed to a sponsorship that makes the fitness center chain a regional club sponsor in Saudi Arabia and the UAE for the next three years. Fitness Time becomes FC Barcelona’s second sponsor in Saudi Arabia, following Samba Financial Group.

COVENTRY, ENGLAND
Wasps look to fans for funding
Premiership rugby club Wasps RFC is seeking to raise as much as $53 million directly from its fans with the issue of a retail bond on the London Stock Exchange, according to a Financial Times report. The Wasps are offering an annual return of 6.5 percent on the bond secured against the 32,600-seat Ricoh Arena.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND
Standard Chartered extends deal
Liverpool FC and Standard Chartered Bank agreed to a three-year extension of their main sponsor agreement, taking the bank’s partnership with the club through to the end of the 2018-19 season. The Standard Chartered logo has appeared on the front of the club’s shirts for the last five seasons.

LONDON
Selfie sticks banned from matches
Wimbledon is banning selfie sticks, with The All England Lawn Tennis Club adding the devices to the list of items banned from its annual championships, according to a Sunday Times report. The report quoted an AELTC spokesperson: “It is partly the nuisance value but primarily so it doesn’t interfere with spectators’ enjoyment.”

RIO DE JANEIRO
Olympics’ cost passes $13 billion
The cost of the 2016 Olympic Games has risen by $169 million, now totaling $13 billion, according to an AE report. The increase refers to “legacy projects” and comes in addition to $8.3 billion for public works, $2.2 billion for Olympic installations, and the $2.4 billion budget for the Rio 2016 organizing committee to run the Games.

SANTIAGO, CHILE
Federation signs Nike deal
The Chilean Football Federation signed an eight-year deal with Nike worth
$56 million, according to an AS report. At $7 million annually, the deal is up from the group’s previous five-year, $2.3 million annual deal with Puma, which had been the group’s sponsor since just after the 2010 World Cup.
